Russia will tighten control over the supply of flowers from the EU

OREANDA-NEWS Russia will tighten control over the import of another type of flower into the country through the EU countries — we are talking about roses grown in Ecuador and the Netherlands. This is stated in the message of the Rosselkhoznadzor.
The Agency appealed to the competent authorities of the EU countries with a request to strengthen control over such supplies to Russia due to the identification of numerous violations of phytosanitary requirements. The Rosselkhoznadzor made this decision against the background of an increase in festive spring supplies of cut flowers in order to prevent the import and spread of infected plants. It is noted that the detection of quarantine objects in Ecuadorian and Dutch roses since the beginning of the year has "taken on a systemic character."
The Service has already sent requests for an investigation and urgent action on the facts of violations of international and Russian phytosanitary requirements, however, the competent authorities of European countries have not responded to them. The Rosselkhoznadzor clarified that 41 percent of Ecuadorian and Dutch roses arrive in Russia through the territory of the EU states.
Since February 9, Russia has imposed restrictions on the supply of carnations grown in Ecuador. The Rosselkhoznadzor noted that these flowers also enter the Russian Federation through the European Union — the Netherlands, Germany, Latvia and Lithuania. The Russian ministry has sent a request to terminate the certification of Ecuadorian carnations to the authorized bodies of these states. The reason for the import ban was the increased incidence of violations of phytosanitary requirements, namely the detection of California flower thrips in imported carnations.
