Russia Wants to Ban Small Plastic
OREANDA-NEWS. Small plastic parts cannot be assembled, sorted and disposed of, therefore, plastic in this form must be prohibited, according to Rosprirodnadzor.
"Of course, a person cannot completely abandon plastic, almost all industrial chains are tied to it. However, small household plastic must be banned. It cannot be collected and disposed of," the head of the department, Svetlana Radionova, wrote on her Instagram page.
In her opinion, it is also necessary to complicate the production of new plastic, and to oblige manufacturers to recycle old products.
Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister Victoria Abramchenko reported that the government is preparing amendments to Russian legislation prohibiting the use of non-recyclable and hard-to-recover materials. In particular, the restrictions will include colored plastic, plastic tubes, cotton swabs and disposable dishes.
According to a representative of Rospotrebnadzor, municipal solid waste facilities occupy 384 thousand hectares, which is comparable to the area of Hong Kong, and all solid waste in Russia can be compared to the area of Greece. “This is a disaster,” says Radionova.
As the head of Rosprirodnadzor noted, there are no normal sorting facilities in Russia. Speaking about the intermediate results of the reform, which has been going on for three years, Radionova noted that in order to achieve any positive results, in her opinion, it is necessary to completely ban small plastic. “It is impossible to collect it, no one will ever collect it. You will not collect, for example, a toothpick packaging, a lot of small plastic, it will remain in the ground forever, ”says the head of Rosprirodnadzor.
