OREANDA-NEWS China's imports of grain and flour from Russia in May this year increased almost threefold compared to the same period last year, RIA Novosti calculated, having studied data from the Chinese statistical service.

So, in May 2024, more than 141 thousand tons of grain and flour (worth $ 33 million) arrived in China from Russia, which is 2.9 times more than in May 2023.

In total, in the first five months of this year, China's imports of Russian grain increased 4.6 times compared to January-May 2023, to 653 thousand tons ($159 million).

At the same time, the total volume of imports for 2023 amounted to 901 thousand tons (234 million dollars). Thus, already in the first months of 2024, Beijing's purchases of grain from Moscow exceeded two-thirds of the supplies for the whole year.

China bought the most Russian barley in May - almost 80 thousand tons ($ 19 million), which is 3.5 times more than last May. Next are wheat and meslin - 28 thousand tons ($ 7 million), oats - 21 thousand tons ($ 4.8 million), flour - 10.5 thousand tons ($ 3.4 million), as well as cereals and coarse flour - 1.9 thousand tons ($ 511 thousand).

And in total, for five months of this year, imports amounted to 377 thousand tons of barley, 125 thousand tons of wheat and meslin, 103 thousand tons of oats, 32 thousand tons of flour, 17 thousand tons of cereals and coarse flour.
