OREANDA-NEWS By the end of June, the trade turnover between Russia and the European Union (EU) fell to the lowest level since September 1999 and amounted to 4.9 billion euros. This is reported by RIA Novosti with reference to data from the EU Statistical Service (Eurostat).

It is noted that the total volume of trade between Russia and European countries fell below the level of 5 billion euros for the first time in the last 25 years. On a monthly basis, the trade turnover decreased by 10 percent. During the second summer month, Russian exporters sent products totaling 2.5 billion euros to the EU, which was the lowest figure since February 1999. Sales of European goods in Russia fell to 2.4 billion in June.

During this period of time, trade with Portugal sank the most — by 4.3 times, to 13.2 million euros. The trade turnover with the Czech Republic and Ireland, in turn, decreased by about half, to 121.5 and 41.5 million euros, respectively. At the same time, Russia's trade with a number of EU countries in June showed the opposite dynamics. Thus, trade turnover with Bulgaria and Romania increased by 15 percent, to 55.8 and 12.3 million euros, respectively.
