OREANDA-NEWS In January-November of this year, Russia purchased wine from Georgia for a record $ 176 million, providing two-thirds of the growth in global demand for local alcohol, according to an analysis of Georgian customs data conducted by RIA Novosti.
So, in January-November of this year, Russia increased the import of Georgian wine by 12% compared to the same period last year, to a historical record of 176 million dollars.
At the same time, the demand for Georgian wine in the rest of the world increased by only four percent, amounting to 86.1 million dollars. Thus, the Russians provided two thirds of Georgia's "new" exports.
Russia is traditionally the main lover of Georgian wine in the world. If 10 years ago, in January-November 2015, Russia accounted for only 46 percent of all Georgian supplies, then in the same period of this year our country has already purchased 67 percent of all Georgian wine.
The second largest buyer, with a share of just under 12 percent, is the EU, with Poland accounting for half of the total demand ($15.2 million). At the same time, the share of the association has fluctuated around the current level in recent years, and in 2015 it was 12.7 percent.
Ukraine closes the top three with imports of 11.7 million dollars, which is 4.5 percent of Georgia's income from the sale of wine abroad. Ukraine has remained close to this value for the last three years, and 10 years ago its share was almost twice as high — eight percent.
