OREANDA-NEWS Last year, meat exports jumped by a quarter, and now they produce as much meat as ever. Domestic consumption is also breaking records: according to forecasts, 83 kilograms per person will be eaten in 2025. There hasn't been any more yet. At the same time, the dynamics are reversed in the USA and Europe. What is the reason for the meat boom and what happens to the prices of the basic product in conditions of high inflation — in the RIA Novosti article.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, in 2024, Russia exported more than 700 thousand tons of meat and offal — 27% more than in 2023. Pig production increased by a third, poultry — by 25%, cattle — by 22.
As calculated by the Agroexport federal center, the total result in monetary terms is plus 24%, to a record $ 1.7 billion.
Poultry meat accounted for 48% of exports (plus 17%, 800 million dollars), pork — 37 (42 and 610 respectively), beef — 14 (16 and 230).
"Since 2019, China, the leading importer of poultry and beef, has been the largest buyer. In 2024, sales there increased by 14%, to $ 560 million. The top 3 also includes Saudi Arabia (an increase of 1.9 times, to 230 million) and Belarus.: In just ten months of last year, Minsk purchased 226 million worth of meat, which is ten percent more than in the same period of 2023," Agroexport reported.
This progress is due to several factors. According to experts, first of all, government support for the agricultural sector has helped — subsidy programs, loans, and tax incentives. This allowed farmers and companies to modernize production and increase capacity.
"Investments in technology have contributed: enterprises have purchased advanced equipment, which has improved product quality and reduced costs. Plus, the development of the feed base: the expansion of feed production has increased the efficiency of animal husbandry and, consequently, the volume of output," says Galina Platunina, senior lecturer at the Department of Digital Economics, Management and Business Technologies at MTUCI.
Geographical proximity to potential buyers in the Asia-Pacific region and the Middle East plays an important role. African countries are showing great interest in Russian farmers, where an increase in purchasing power is accompanied by an increase in demand for animal protein, emphasizes Vadim Petrov, a member of the Inter-Sessional Financial Advisory Group (IFAG) IOC UNESCO.
