OREANDA-NEWS  In January—August of this year, Russia reduced the import of bananas from Ecuador to 776 thousand tons, the lowest figure in the last 12 years, according to RIA Novosti calculations based on data from this Latin American country.
The volume of imported bananas turned out to be 20 percent less than in the same period of 2023. So few bananas from Ecuador have been imported to Russia since 2012, when this figure amounted to 755 thousand tons.

On average, in the last five years, Russia has on average purchased 958 thousand tons from Ecuador, accounting for 20-25 percent of the total volume of banana exports of this country.

In the eight months of 2024, the share of supplies to Russia in total exports decreased to 18.9 percent, which is the lowest since 2001. At the same time, Russia remains the largest buyer, with the United States in second place (14.8%), and the Netherlands in third (6.9%).

Ecuador was unable to reorient the dropped volumes to other markets: in general, exports fell by 450 thousand tons in eight months, or by 10 percent to 4.1 million tons.
