Prime Minister of Greece Announced the Expected Start of the Tourist Season
OREANDA-NEWS. The tourist season this year will be much better than last, the first guests can come to Greece in late March - early April, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said in an interview with Skai TV channel.
The Prime Minister also denied rumors that the tourist season in Greece will begin in August.
Mitsotakis said that last year Greece struggled to reach 25 percent of the usual level of tourist traffic. He is confident that this year the situation in the country's tourism industry will be much better. The Greek Prime Minister believes that they will already have their first travelers from late March - early April. While in difficult 2020, the Greeks saw the first vacationers in June.
Kyriakos Mitsotakis visited Israel and discussed with the Prime Minister of this country Benjamin Netanyahu the introduction of "green passports" for tourists who have been vaccinated against the coronavirus so that they can freely enter Greece. The Israeli market is one of the most important for the Greek tourism sector.
Mitsotakis reiterated his support for the vaccination certificate and said that as the pandemic is successfully tackled and the economy recovers, people will travel more. He said in this regard: "We want Greeks to travel around Greece, so that Europeans, Americans, Russians who did not come last year, visit us this year. That is why I insist on a certificate of vaccination."
