OREANDA-NEWS Since the beginning of 2024, the selling prices of beef producers in Russia have soared. This is reported by the Vedomosti newspaper with reference to the calculations of the National Union of Meat Processors (NSM).

From November 11 to 17, the cost of beef for meat processing enterprises reached a record 700 rubles per kilogram in three years. In the same period of 2023, producers sold beef for 566 rubles per kilogram, and in 2022 and 2021 — for 520 and 516 rubles, respectively.

For end sellers, the cost of beef has increased less — by an average of 13 percent since the beginning of the year. Over the past two weeks, prices have increased by 5.2 percent. Suppliers explain the rise in price with an increase in selling prices at Belarusian factories, which are major suppliers of beef to Russia.

According to Roman Kostyuk, Director General of the National Union of Beef Producers, in the last seven years in Russia there has been a trend towards a decrease in the breeding stock of cattle (cattle), which significantly affects the prospect of beef production. If the current rate of livestock decline in the country continues, by 2030 its number may decrease to 2.1 million heads (minus 12.5 percent).

"This year there is a high demand for all types of meat and meat products, including premium ones. Therefore, taking into account the growth in demand and the general inflationary increase in producer costs, a slight price correction is possible," said Igor Karavaev, Chairman of the Presidium of the Association of Retail Companies.
