Ozon will start fining sellers of fakes

OREANDA-NEWS Ozon has announced a new punishment for trading in fakes — the marketplace will not only block such goods, but also charge a fine from sellers. This is reported on the marketplace website.
Sanctions will be threatened if the published product is prohibited for sale or its description violates the rules of the site. For example, when there is no marking 18+. In such cases, the goods will be hidden from the showcase, and their seller will be able to challenge the decision of the marketplace within seven days.
The marketplace release notes that this measure will protect customers from low-quality products. Ozon recalled that for this purpose, the marketplace asks sellers in advance for documents for goods by brands that are most often forged.
Ozon's competitor, Wildberries, imposed a fine of 1.5 thousand rubles from February 22 for each product with missing or unreadable markings, Vedomosti reported. After the Ministry of Industry and Trade called Wildberries a counterfeit sales channel in July 2022, the company created a Digital Arbitration service designed to protect copyright holders from unfair actions of other sellers, and buyers from fakes.
In early March, Izvestia wrote that Russian marketplaces would be obliged to check sellers and the authenticity of goods. This issue is being discussed on the basis of the Public Council at Rospotrebnadzor. As reported then in the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the largest sites have already supported this idea.
