OREANDA-NEWS  In November, Georgia increased the supply of tangerines to Russia by 25 percent, to 6.9 thousand tons. The achieved result turned out to be a record for this month, RIA Novosti reports, citing data from the republic's Customs Service.

For comparison, in the last month of autumn last year, Georgian exports of tangerines to Russia were estimated at 5.5 thousand tons. Thus, the indicator increased by 1.4 thousand tons in annual terms. The result achieved in November 2024 turned out to be the highest in the last ten years (the Georgian ministry does not publish earlier data). The previous record of 6.7 thousand tons was recorded in 2021.

Exports of Georgian mandarins in Russia have grown not only in physical terms, but also in monetary terms. The cost of supplies in November reached the maximum for the end of autumn level of 4.3 million dollars. As a result, Russia has become the main market for these products from Georgia with a share of almost 73 percent. Armenia took the second place in this indicator (2.3 thousand tons), covering about 25 percent of exports.

In the first half of October, the head of the Berry Union, Irina Koziy, warned Russians about a possible twofold increase in the price of tangerines in winter. She attributed such risks to logistical difficulties and the complication of cross-border payments due to sanctions. She also pointed out the threat of being left without the popular Moroccan clementines due to the tense political situation in the African country.

At the same time, the Rosselkhoznadzor stated that there are currently no problems with the supply of these citrus fruits to Russia. According to the agency, in January-November 2024, the Russian Federation increased imports of these products by 14.4 percent, to 738.3 thousand tons. The main exporters of tangerines are Turkey, Egypt, China, South Africa, Iran, Georgia, Abkhazia, Morocco and Pakistan.
