OREANDA-NEWS Japanese game console developer Nintendo has closed access to the website of the Russian division of the company. The corresponding announcement appeared on Wednesday, May 31, on the company's website.
The Russian version of the Nintendo eShop digital store will work in a limited mode. Therefore, users can now re-download only previously purchased games. "Starting from May 31, 2023, Russian customers who have a Nintendo account will be able to re-download previously purchased digital content. It will be impossible to create new Nintendo accounts," the message reads. The company also added that all payment information was deleted from Russian accounts "for security reasons."
In March 2022, Nintendo suspended sales in Russia. Soon after, the Ministry of Industry and Trade included the company's goods in the list of products allowed for parallel import.
A month earlier, Sony blocked some Turkish PlayStation accounts from Russians. Both those who independently created Turkish accounts and paid for PS Plus subscriptions and games on them, as well as users who applied for the services of intermediaries, were blocked. It has not yet been possible to identify any connection between the locks - users played on both Turkish and Russian accounts and used different payment methods.
