Moet Hennessy will Change Labels to Resume Champagne Supplies to Russia
OREANDA-NEWS. The French multinational company Moet Hennessy-Louis Vuitton will start adding a mention of «sparkling wine» on the back of champagne bottles to comply with the new amendments to the law on the regulation of alcoholic beverages, which were signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin on July 2. At the same time, the company indicated that they always try to comply with the current legislation. Excerpts from the MH statement were given on Sunday, July 4, by Reuters.
«MH Champagne Maisons has always complied with the current legislation, wherever they operate, and will resume deliveries as soon as appropriate changes are made», said a statement obtained by Reuters by email.
Moet Hennessy (MH) clarified that it will take some time to resolve logistical and regulatory issues, including those related to the replacement of labels. The exact dates were not given in MH. The company, in particular, sells champagne Moet&Chandon, Veuve Clicquot and Dom Perignon.
The amendments signed by Putin allowed the use of the concept of «champagne» exclusively in relation to such products produced on the territory of Russia. At the same time, suppliers of champagne wines from the French Champagne region were obliged to rename their products to «sparkling wine» in accordance with the new law, the letter from Moet Hennessy said.
Against this background, MH informed it's partners that it was temporarily suspending the supply of it's products to the Russian Federation — due to a change in legislation.
