OREANDA-NEWS. The countries participating in the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) may oblige Russia to lift the ban on the production and circulation of low-alcohol energy drinks. This is reported by the Russian media. It's noted that the commission expects to consider this issue at a meeting of the EEC board.
According to the member countries of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), by stopping the production of alkoenergetikov in the country, Russia created an additional barrier to trade in the union’s market, which it didn't have the right to do unilaterally. At the same time, according to the publication, the Ministry of Finance of Russia did not agree with the claims. The ministry believes that the state has the right to introduce more stringent standards in order to protect the health of the population.
The Ministry of Finance noted that in the spring of 2019 the issue of trade in beverage data was considered with the participation of all member states of the union. As a result of the discussion, no complaints about Russia were made. Then, according to the news agency, it was decided that this issue should be resolved within Russia, and not at the supranational level.
As the EAEU President, Andrei Mezhonov, explained to the publication, in other EAEU countries there are no restrictions on the production and circulation of alcoholic tonic beverages. He outlined the conditions for the abolition of the ban on production by Russia, or the introduction of a ban on the territory of the entire EAEU. The ban on the production and circulation of low-alcohol energy drinks in Russia came into force on January 1, 2018. The decision was made because of the combination of alcohol and energy additives (caffeine, guarana, taurine, etc.), which have a negative impact on health. The only exceptions are drinks produced for export.
