OREANDA-NEWS Exporters from India have offered Russia to share eggs — they are ready to increase supplies if the authorities of the two countries agree on this issue at the ongoing negotiations. This was stated to the Business Standard by the president of the Marketing Society of Poultry Farmers of the South Indian state of Tamil Nadu, Wangili Subramaniam.
According to him, Russian officials recognize the shortage of eggs, and broiler factories in Namakkal, which are responsible for 95 percent of Indian exports of the product, want to increase production. "If this is decided at the government level, Russia will become a huge market for India," he concluded.
In turn, Valsan Parameswaran, Secretary of the All India Poultry Exporters Association (AIPPEA), stressed that in fact the Russian market is still closed to Indian companies, but the process has been launched. Industry representatives are asking the government to speed up negotiations with Moscow in order to start deliveries as soon as possible.
According to the Ministry of Commerce of India, from April to October 2023, the country supplied eggs to Russia in the amount of 110 thousand dollars, which is ten times more than in the same period a year earlier. However, this is a small share of India's total egg exports, which amounted to $53.37 million over the same period.
