OREANDA-NEWS  The Russian ready-to-eat food market will grow by 38.8 percent in 2024, to 1.04 trillion rubles. Kommersant writes about this with reference to the Infoline forecast.

In the first half of the year, the segment's turnover has already grown by 29 percent year-on-year, to 435 billion rubles. At the same time, in 2017-2023, the growth rate of this market averaged 17 percent per year. Mikhail Burmistrov, CEO of Infoline Analytics, explains such a sharp jump in sales with an increase in household incomes combined with low unemployment. For these reasons, most Russians do not have enough free time to cook at home.

In addition, there are more singles in Russia — the number of households consisting of one person increased from 14 million in 2010 to 28.5 million in 2023, the expert added. "Families prefer to cook more often," he explained. The popularity of ready-made food has also been influenced by the growth in the number of small apartments where the size of the kitchen is limited. According to "Dom.Over the past four years, the average area of an apartment purchased has decreased by 12 percent, to 43 square meters.

At the same time, manufacturers are increasingly increasing the range of ready meals, says RestCon CEO Elena Perepelitsa. Retailers also pay great attention to the segment, some of them plan that this category will account for up to 20 percent of turnover, added One Story partner Olga Sumishevskaya.

Earlier it became known that in most (62.5 percent) of dishes ordered with delivery in Russia, an unacceptable amount of E. coli and microbes was detected. The inspections affected the dishes of the largest players in the market of ready meals with delivery, including Level kitchen, Grow food, "Yandex. Shop", "Scooter", "Vkusville", "Crossroads", "Tanuki" and "Chocolate Maker".
