OREANDA-NEWS. The largest German retail chains - Aldi, Rewe, Lidl, Edeka - will have to significantly raise food prices due to the Russian special operation in Ukraine and the sanctions that followed it. It is reported by Focus.de.
“Prices may rise again at Easter. Cause? The existing supply cannot meet the higher demand.
In particular, it is expected that prices for butter will rise, as well as an increase in the cost of cheese, sausages, jams and chocolate.
The magazine urged German citizens to pay attention to discount brochures and buy in advance - while "do not accumulate, but buy carefully to use up the goods within a month."
Earlier, German Agriculture Minister Cem Ozdemir called on fellow citizens to throw away less food and eat less meat whenever possible in order to counter Russia, which, in his opinion, uses food supplies "as a weapon."
“Despite the fact that I am a vegetarian, I will not preach that everyone should go vegetarian. But let’s put it this way: eating less meat would be a contribution against Putin,” Ozdemir said in an interview with Spiegel.
The minister also urged Germans to "shop consciously."
