"Delivery Club" Fired Russian Courier for Missing Work due to Mother's Funeral
OREANDA-NEWS The food and grocery delivery service "Delivery Club" was at the center of a scandal after the dismissal of one of the couriers. A deliveryman from Vladivostok named Oleg flew out of work for asking to cancel his 14-hour shift, as he was preparing for his mother's funeral.
The correspondence of the deliverer with the curator Ksenia was published by the public "Courier Trade Union" in VKontakte. In it, the girl declares that she is not going to make concessions, because "there is a shortage of couriers now." After the young man did not come on shift, he was fined. Later, due to his worries, Oleg became ill, but even then the request to remove the shift was ignored — he was blocked and demanded to return the form of the deliverer.
Oleg told "Novaya Gazeta" that he initially received permission to skip work. But then supervisor Ksenia called him, informed him about a fine of 900 rubles and dismissal. "This is a shift disruption. The company lost money on you," Oleg quoted the words of the curator.
"Delivery Club" does not work with couriers directly, but through contractors. In Vladivostok, the services of intermediaries are provided by ICL, where Ksenia works. Oleg planned to contact the "Delivery Club" directly and complain about the situation, but Ksenia forbade it. She stated that he should only act through ICL.
The courier's story caused a lot of dissatisfied responses. People started writing in social networks that they were going to boycott the "Delivery Club", and also greatly underestimated the ratings of the service's application in Google Play. In the comments to the assessments, they also announced a boycott and demanded that the courier be reinstated at work.
