Cuba Released 228 Tourists Trapped in Isolation Due to Suspected Coronavirus
OREANDA-NEWS. More than 200 tourists, who were isolated in Cuba due to suspected coronavirus, were released after receiving negative results from rapid tests for COVID-19. Two Russian tourists remained in quarantine, according to TASS.
“Yesterday 230 express tests were done for all tourists who arrived between June 30 and July 4 and the results of the first tests of which were positive upon arrival. All, except for two tourists, have a negative result, "said the Russian Consul General in Havana, Nana Mgeladze.
All the freed tourists decided to continue their vacation. Some of them were in quarantine for 6 days. At the same time, most of the citizens who got into isolation claimed that they had no symptoms of the disease and had been vaccinated against coronavirus. Also, before leaving for Cuba, all Russians underwent PCR tests with negative results.
Two women who test positive for COVID-19 remain quarantined at the hotel. Another 16 people are in the observatory in the resort of Varadero. One Russian is being treated at a medical facility in Havana.
On July 5, Mgeladze reported that more than 150 Russians in Cuba were diagnosed with coronavirus infection upon arrival, including members of the aircraft crew. After the intervention of the Russian Foreign Ministry, the Cuban authorities conducted express tests for all tourists detained in isolation. According to the Consul General, the delay of tourists in Cuba is associated with problems in the laboratories on the island.
