Netflix will show new Star Trek series
The forthcoming series will see a new ship's crew boldly going on TV, following the success of a recent big-screen reboot for the beloved sci-fi saga.
In the US, the new 13-episode series will be available on CBS All Access, the CBS online subscription-based video-on-demand and live-streaming service. Trekkies living outside the US and Canada can watch on Netflix. (Disclosure: CBS is the parent company of CNET.)
New Trek will premiere in January 2017. New episodes will materialize on Netflix within 24 hours of first appearing in the US.
The new show will join all the previous Trek series on Netflix. "Star Trek: The Original Series," "The Next Generation," "Deep Space Nine," "Voyager" and "Enterprise" popped up on UK Netflix recently, and all will be available in all countries the streaming service covers by the end of this year.
The captains at the conn of the new show are Alex Kurtzman, who co-wrote the rebooted Trek movies with JJ Abrams, and Bryan Fuller, the man behind "Hannibal." Fuller began his career writing for "Deep Space Nine" and "Voyager."
