Former PlayStation Exec joins Killer Instinct dev
OREANDA-NEWS. July 27, 2016. Adam Boyes, formerly PlayStation's VP of third party relations and developer technology group, has joined Iron Galaxy Studios.
Boyes announced the move on Twitter with what looks like it could be the cover for Iron Galaxy's debut indie trip hop album.
Iron Galaxy is based in Chicago and previously assisted development of BioShock Infinite and Batman: Arkham Knight, among other titles. It also ported a number of Capcom fighting games. More recently it has been developing Xbox One fighting game Killer Instinct.
Iron Galaxy has also been moving into publishing games, and started with Videoball. Boyes' experience at PlayStation will be key to this expansion.
Chelsea Blasko, formerly director of product development, has now been named chief product officer. She will manage production and operations to scale the operation "as Boyes delivers new opportunities and growth."
"Over the last several years, Boyes has cultivated deep relationships with many of the most influential publishers and developers in the games industry," the studio said in a press release issued after the tweet.
"Boyes will leverage his publisher relationships to explore new opportunities for Iron Galaxy and maximize the studio's revenue potential."
Iron Galaxy founder, Dave Lang, will continue to oversee the the studio's strategic vision, direction, and business development.
"I am extremely excited to have Adam and Chelsea join the leadership team at Iron Galaxy," said Lang. "Adam is a seasoned professional who can expand and evolve the publishing arm of our business, while Chelsea, who has been with us since inception, can manage and drive the teams forward as we execute against a grander vision."
He continued: "With Adam in place, Chelsea and I can focus on cultivating talent, managing our teams and delivering great product."
Boyes added: "I've always had a passion for game development and I'm extremely excited to be getting closer to it with my move to Iron Galaxy. I'm honored to be working with such a talented team and look forward to creating opportunities and crafting deals that deliver their products to a wider audience."
Prior to working at PlayStation, Boyes served as the director of production at Capcom USA. He worked at Capcom for three years, before parting with the company in early 2010.
He was also a member of the board of directors for Starbreeze Studios, developers of Payday 2, Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons, and upcoming first-person shooter, Overkill's The Walking Dead.
