Zelensky Admits He is Not Happy about the Deal Between the USA and Germany on Nord Stream 2
OREANDA-NEWS. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky told that he was not happy with the agreement on the Nord Stream 2 pipeline made by the United States and Germany, and plans to discuss the project at a meeting with US President Joe Biden.
Earlier, Germany and the United States announced a joint statement, which includes measures to support Ukraine, European energy security and common goals to protect the climate. It formulates a number of conditions for the operation of Nord Stream 2.
"Of course, I am not at all happy with this agreement. The issue of Nord Stream 2 is a priority on the agenda of my meeting with US President Joe Biden in Washington," he said in an interview with the Funke media group.
At the same time, the President noted that time will pass between the completion of construction and the commissioning of the project. "It is necessary to follow international law, comply with international energy standards ... we use this time to protect our own interests," Zelensky said.
According to the politician, the launch of the pipeline is still in question. He estimated the chances that the project will not take place at 30-40%.
Earlier, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said that the meeting between President Zelensky and Biden would take place on August 31, and the "face-to-face" format is also envisaged.
