OREANDA-NEWS. The head of the US Department of Energy, Rick Perry, expressed the hope that the House of Representatives and the Senate of the US Congress will prepare a bill that would suggest restrictions on companies working on the construction of the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline. About this, indicates Bloomberg, Perry said in Kiev (with an official visit to Ukraine, he arrived the day before).
"The United States is going to impose sanctions on Nord Stream II," says the Bloomberg headline, citing Perry. According to the agency, the head of the US Ministry of Energy also called on the Ukrainian authorities to develop their own resources so that they have enough gas in the storage before the onset of winter. Other details of the speech of the Minister of Bloomberg doesn't lead. The Russian media sent requests to the representative of Gazprom and the project company Nord Stream-2 (engaged in the construction of Nord Stream-2).
This is not the first time Perry has spoken about possible US sanctions against Nord Stream II. In November last year, during his visit to Warsaw, the minister also noted that such restrictions "were one of the options that the president is considering." “I didn’t see any signals that we would ever be able to come to support Nord Stream 2,” the head of department emphasized.
The United States, some Eastern European countries and the Baltic republics are opposed to the construction of a gas pipeline. In their opinion, Nord Stream II can provide Russia with “another tool for political pressure.” First of all, this project has a “high sanction risk,” the American ambassador to Germany Richard Grenelle also stated. In the Kremlin, such statements were associated with an attempt by the American authorities to force Europeans to buy more expensive liquefied gas from the United States.
