US Authorities May Lease Federal Oil Storage to Companies
OREANDA-NEWS. The US Department of Energy is considering allowing American oil companies to lease space in the US Strategic Petroleum Reserve for storing fuel.
This was reported on April 1 by Bloomberg agency, citing sources. It is noted that such a measure will allow entities, storages of which are already full, to store energy resources in the conditions of low prices and low demand. According to the publication, pipeline operators have begun asking extractive companies to cut production, as storage space in tanks and pipelines is running out.
The idea of leasing of the Strategic Petroleum Reserve appeared after representatives of the Democratic Party in Congress blocked a request from the US administration to allocate 3 billion dollars to buy 77 million barrels of oil from companies.
