OREANDA-NEWS. Ukraine agreed with Slovakia to launch on March 1 of this year a virtual reverse of Russian gas that goes to Europe through Ukrainian territory. This was reported on Friday on the official website of the Ukrainian company.
"Ukrainian GTS Operator" and the Slovak GTS operator "Eustream a.s." launch a virtual reverse through the connection point "Velke Kapushany - Uzhgorod", the Ukrainian operator said in a statement. In turn, the operator of the Slovak gas transmission system notes that daily gas supplies as part of a virtual reverse to Ukraine will amount to 10 million cubic meters. At the same time, network operators, as emphasized in the message, can agree to increase volumes if necessary.
Naftogaz hasn't bought gas directly from Gazprom since November 26, 2015. Then the reason for the termination of relations between Naftogaz Ukrainy and Gazprom was the inconsistency in the price of gas.
On New Year's Eve, Ukraine and the Russian Federation agreed to extend the transit of Russian gas through Ukrainian territory for the period from 2020 to 2024 with the possibility of extension for another 10 years. The contract includes transit of 65 billion cubic meters of gas in 2020, 40 billion cubic meters - from 2021 to 2024.
