Two New Fields for Nord Stream 2 Launched Beyond the Arctic Circle
OREANDA-NEWS. Two new fields were commissioned at the Urengoyskoye oil and gas condensate field in January and April 2021. Their total capacity is 56 million cubic meters of gas daily. The fields will become part of the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline project, the construction of which will be completed, according to Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak, this year.
Achimgaz JSC commissioned sections 5A and 4A by order of Achim Development LLC. They are located on both sides of the Arctic Circle: 61 kilometers and 75 kilometers north of the city of Novy Urengoy. In total, 19 contractors and about five thousands of people.
The start-up of integrated gas treatment units (GTP) 51 and 41 was supervised by the shareholders of Gazprom PJSC, Wintershall Dea, Gazprom Dobycha Urengoy LLC. The work of the first stage of the development of the oil and gas bearing Achimov horizons is now being completed - the construction of facilities for the start-up complex. The total area of the plots is 576 square kilometers. Drilling on them is carried out in a special cluster method in order to minimize the impact on the sensitive ecosystem. In one cluster, as a rule, from two to seven wells, horizontal drilling technology is also used, thanks to which it becomes possible to extract the hard-to-reach Achimov deposits.
The Achimov deposits were formed 140 million years ago and are among the deepest in the world - 3700-4000 meters.
In fact, construction and development work was carried out for two years, starting from January 2019. The main phase of the construction of full development facilities for both sections is planned to be completed in 2043.
