OREANDA-NEWS Turkey plans to ask for a discount of more than 25% on Russian gas at talks with representatives of the Russian Federation in Ankara scheduled for Friday. This was reported on Thursday by Bloomberg with reference to an unnamed Turkish high-ranking official.
According to the agency interlocutor, Turkey will try to ensure that the discount applies to payments in 2023, as well as retroactively some payments made in 2022. If it is not possible to achieve a discount at the desired level, then the authorities will try to get deferrals on payments, preferably until 2024, the report says.
Bloomberg recalls that last year Russia supplied just under half of the 59 billion cubic meters of gas imported by Turkey. President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that Turkey's total electricity bill for 2022 could reach $100 billion, which is twice as much as last year.
Earlier it was reported that a delegation from Russia led by Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin will arrive in Istanbul for political consultations on December 8-9 with Deputy Foreign Minister of the Republic of Turkey Sedat Onal. Vershinin will also visit the Joint Coordination Center engaged in the implementation of the "Black Sea Initiative" for the export of Ukrainian food.
