The Wall Street Journal Reported of China’s Participation in the Construction of a Nuclear Facility in Saudi Arabia
OREANDA-NEWS. China is participating in the construction of a uranium ore concentrate plant in Saudi Arabia. This was reported by The Wall Street Journal, citing sources in the Western countries.
It is clarified that the China National Nuclear Corporation and China Nuclear Engineering Group Corporation were involved. The publication informs that the project is being carried out in the desert in the northwestern part of the country, and the official Riyadh has not yet officially confirmed its existence. Moreover, the kingdom’s Ministry of Energy denied the construction of a nuclear facility. Saudi officials pointed out that any work with uranium is just one of the ways to diversify the economy and reduce dependence on oil production.
According to The Wall Street Journal, the construction of the plant is of concern to the United States. A group of congressmen that raised questions about Saudi Arabia’s nuclear programme recalled of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s threats to create weapons of mass destruction if Iran develop a bomb.
