OREANDA-NEWS. German Foreign Minister Annalena Burbock, at talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Moscow, actually recognized her country's interest in Russian gas.
But until now, the Green Party and personally its co-chairman Burbock have threatened to turn the gas pipeline into a "ruin at the bottom of the Baltic Sea." Thus, it is obvious that the new German Foreign Minister "changed her shoes" on the go. This opinion was expressed by the German political scientist Alexander Rahr in an interview with the Ukraina.ru portal.
"She did not say that there would be no Nord Stream 2. On the contrary, she turned 180 degrees, she "changed her shoes," Rahr believes. managed to convince her.
On the eve of Annalena Burbock's first visit to Moscow, Alexander Rahr admitted in an interview with RG that much would depend on her readiness to represent the whole of Germany and the entire federal government at the negotiations, and not just the ideology of her party. Recall that at a joint press conference with Sergei Lavrov, she repeated the formula, already traditional for Berlin, that the gas pipeline "is unacceptable to be used as a political weapon," but did not say that the new government was fundamentally opposed to the project.
"Burbock said that we will still need gas from Russia for many years to come. Please, we want reliable gas supplies to us," Rahr concluded.
