The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Finland Told Whether the Import of Energy from Russia will Be Limited
OREANDA-NEWS. Russia has always been a good and reliable supplier of electricity to Finland, and Helsinki has no plans to restrict these imports. Finnish Foreign Minister Pekka Haavisto told about this in an interview with RIA Novosti.
Haavisto, recalling the global goals of the Finnish Cabinet, said: “At present, Finland has no plans to restrict electricity imports from Russia. The transmission line between Finland and Russia is old and requires reconstruction, the decision on which lies on the shoulders of the Russian side. This is one of the facts influencing this issue. Russia has always been a good and reliable energy supplier to Finland, and it continues to rank first among Finland's oil suppliers. "
The Minister noted: “The goal of the Finnish government is to make Finland carbon neutral by 2035 and the world's first fossil fuel-free society. Achieving these targets requires rapid emission reductions. As awareness and concern about climate change increases - from both consumers and businesses - the demand for low-carbon and energy-efficient products and services will increase. "
At the same time, the head of the foreign policy department sees interest in "green" technologies in Russia as well.
“I am convinced that in the future we will have the opportunity to strengthen Finnish-Russian cooperation in the field of green growth. This would be beneficial for both countries in the long term. As I understand it, in Russia, concern is also increasing about melting in the northern regions of permafrost due to the consequences of climate change. Cooperation on climate issues between Finland and Russia is very important, "the minister stressed.
