OREANDA-NEWS The Italian energy company Eni appealed to arbitration due to Gazprom's reduction of Russian gas supplies. Bloomberg writes about this.
The company notes that the concluded contracts continue to operate. "The abbreviations applied by Gazprom Export are the subject of confidential arbitration proceedings," the document says.
According to the agency, the drop in the volume of supplies by the Italian energy company has been recorded since mid-2022. So, in June, Eni announced a reduction in the volumes received by 15 percent, after which the reduction was confirmed in Gazprom. The Russian company reported that the Austrian side refused to "confirm the transport nominations."
The head of Eni, Claudio Descalzi, said that by May the share of Russian gas in Italy had decreased "to several percent." "Thanks to the import of liquefied natural gas from the United States and new supply contracts with North Africa and sub—Saharan Africa," he said.
In November, Italian Minister for Economic Development Adolfo Urso said that the country is ready to double gas production on its territory in the coming years, in particular due to resources in the Adriatic Sea, and become an exporter of fuel to the Nordic countries. According to him, over the past ten years, gas production from Italian fields has decreased from 13 to 3 billion cubic meters per year, since the country imported large volumes of fuel from Russia.
