OREANDA-NEWS Rosatom considered the option of completely shutting down the Kursk Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) in the city of Kurchatov, but has not yet made a final decision on this issue. This was stated by the CEO of the corporation Alexey Likhachev in an interview with the Zvezda TV channel.

"If the situation worsens, then, of course, we will stop it. But for now, we believe that the security measures taken are enough to protect the station," Likhachev said.

He recalled that only one out of four power units is currently operating at the nuclear power plant in the Kursk region. His work is important for the energy supply of the region, the CEO of Rosatom stressed.

The Kursk NPP is located in Kurchatov on the banks of the Seim River, 40 kilometers west of Kursk and about 110 kilometers from the border with Ukraine. The commander of the Akhmat special forces, Apti Alaudinov, stated that after the invasion of the Kursk region, the AFU planned to seize the Kursk NPP in less than a week. After the invasion of the region, the Armed Forces of Ukraine tried to hit the facility more than once.
