OREANDA-NEWS The European Anti-Fraud Office is investigating possible cases of Russian petroleum products being supplied to European Union (EU) countries bypassing the imposed sanctions through Turkey, which has become a transshipment center for them. Politico reports on the interest of the European Union in the process, citing two interlocutors.
It is assumed that the scheme uses a loophole allowing the import of mixed fuel if it is labeled as non-Russian. It is possible that millions of barrels of diesel fuel are sent to the EU in this way.
As the newspaper notes, we are talking about revenue from only three Turkish ports in the amount of three billion dollars within 12 months from the moment the European Union imposed an embargo in February 2023. It is indicated that the inspection is taking place against the background of deteriorating relations between Brussels and Ankara.
Earlier, the US Treasury Department published an application to find a qualified company that will take over the daily monitoring of oil prices on the world market, including Russian Urals and Far Eastern ESPO oil grades.
At the same time, the report says that the agency needs a comprehensive assessment of the oil market, but it needs to be carried out in the context of limiting the cost of Russian oil and the implementation of appropriate sanctions.
