OREANDA-NEWS The European Union (EU) in January—October 2022 increased the supply of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to replace gas from Russia — its global supplies to 27 EU member states amounted to 105 billion cubic meters, the research company Kpler estimates. RBC writes about this.
It is noted that for the same period in 2021, this figure was at the level of 64 billion cubic meters, and for the whole of last year, EU countries purchased 78.1 billion cubic meters. At the same time, the result of the current year in terms of purchase volumes exceeded the indicators of the other largest LNG consumer — China.
Laura Page, senior LNG analyst at Kpler, predicted in an interview with the publication that by the end of the entire 2022, the supply of liquefied gas to Europe will amount to approximately 123 billion cubic meters. A similar forecast — "with import rates fixed at the beginning of November" of about 125 billion cubic meters is given by an analyst of the project center for energy transfer and ESG "Skoltech" and Sergey Kapitonov. According to him, if last year LNG accounted for 18 percent of gas consumption in the EU, then in 2022 its share will grow to 35 percent.
