Russia will send $62 million worth of diesel fuel and equipment to Cuba

OREANDA-NEWS Russia will send 80 thousand tons of diesel fuel and equipment to Cuba for a total of $ 62 million. This was stated by Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko at a meeting of the co-chairs of the Russian-Cuban intergovernmental commission on cooperation. His words are quoted by TASS.
Today, Cuba is experiencing an acute energy crisis, as well as eliminating the consequences of Hurricane Rafael. In this regard, Moscow is ready to provide emergency assistance to the country, the Russian Deputy Prime Minister stressed, noting that this instruction was given by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
"Russia is ready to provide emergency assistance to fraternal Cuba in connection with the current situation in the energy sector, it includes the supply of about 80 thousand tons of diesel fuel in the amount approved in accordance with the instructions of the president, 60 million dollars," Chernyshenko said.
In addition, Russia will send repair kits for the affected equipment worth $ 2 million.
Earlier, Cuba's national electrical system was completely shut down due to strong winds from Hurricane Rafael. The wind speed during the hurricane that hit the country reached 180 kilometers per hour. Several airports have been shut down.
