OREANDA-NEWS According to the results of the first half of 2024, the total volume of Russian gas supplies via the Power of Siberia pipeline to China increased by about 35 percent compared to the same period in 2023. This is reported by TASS with reference to the report of the International Energy Agency (IEA).
It is clarified that against the background of such dynamics, the supply of Russian fuel through this pipeline to China may exceed 30 billion cubic meters. The maximum annual capacity of the Power of Siberia is estimated at 38 billion.
Earlier, the head of the Russian Gazprom energy holding, Alexey Miller, predicted Russia's status as the main supplier of gas to China. According to him, this will become possible with the release of the "Power of Siberia" and the "Far Eastern" route at full capacity.
In this scenario, Russia will be able to supply China with about 48 billion cubic meters of fuel per year, excluding exports via the Power of Siberia-2. The final conditions for the cost and volume of gas pumping along the latter route have not yet been determined. Representatives of Gazprom and the Chinese energy concern CNPC are taking part in the negotiations on these issues.
As for the "Power of Siberia", in April 2024 alone, the volume of Russian gas supplies to China via this route increased by 57.1 percent compared to the same period in 2023. In turn, the total volume of exports in the period from January 1 to May 12 increased by 37.4 percent, Gazprom claimed.
