Romanian Special Operation Against Russia Failed
OREANDA-NEWS The American plan to torpedo “Nord Stream-2” with the help of the European Commission looked great — at least at the level of the basic idea. Namely, if the "Nord stream -2" withdraw from the jurisdiction of Germany under the jurisdiction of the European Commission and to achieve the adoption of appropriate restrictions on the level of legislation of the European Union, it is possible to destroy a Russian pipeline, even without sanctions. And moreover, to pretend that the US has nothing to do with it and it is the Europeans themselves decided to abandon the totalitarian Russian gas pipeline.
The Americans only needed an "agent", in the truest sense of the word — they needed a country that would introduce to the European Parliament, and then to the European Council of Ministers those changes in the legislation of the European Union that would actually prohibit the construction of the “Nord stream — 2”.
The solution was found: this" agent " was Romania, which just recently received a six-month presidency of the Council of the European Union. It was Romanian diplomacy that had the honor to organize such an administrative blitzkrieg to drag through the European Council of Ministers the so-called gas Directive, which is actually an administrative "weapon" directed against Russia.
It should be noted that in different forms the same "anti — Russian" gas Directive of the European Union has already been discussed and many EU countries have opposed it at the conceptual level. However, this time the last and decisive battle was expected, due to the fact that the trump administration really needs a landmark victory over Russia.
"Romania raises rates with the help of the revised gas Directive" and statements by Deputy Head of the European Commission Maros Sefcovic, who stressed that the "Romanian proposals" took into account all the claims of opponents of the Directive and now we can hope for progress in its adoption.
Now the American opponents have one last chance to block the pipeline: the imposition of sanctions against companies that physically lay pipes, buy gas from Russia or participate in the financing of construction. It was the US Ambassador to Germany, Richard Grenell, who threatened sanctions. German economy Minister Peter Altmeyer responded to these threats: "we are not so easy to impress and intimidate."
