OREANDA-NEWS Pipeline oil supplies from Russia may not fall under the embargo of the European Union. This was reported by Reuters with reference to the draft final statement of the EU summit.
At the same time, it is noted that the European Union will consider the issue of introducing a ban on the supply of pipeline oil as soon as possible.
Earlier, Reuters reported that European diplomats will still try to agree on an embargo on Russian oil on May 30.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen warned on May 24 that EU leaders are unlikely to reach an agreement on an oil embargo against Russia at the May 30-31 summit.
According to her, if Brussels immediately imposes an embargo on Russian oil, then Russian President Vladimir Putin "will probably be able to transfer oil that he does not sell to the European Union to the world market, where prices will rise, and get a large sum for it." According to her, this will “fill the military treasury” of Russia even more.
The ban on Russian oil may be included in the sixth package of EU sanctions. In addition to oil, it includes Sberbank being cut off from SWIFT and more personal sanctions.
