Prospects for Nord Stream 2 will Be Decided in a Week
OREANDA-NEWS. The first results of the elections in Germany, which will begin on September 26, will be summed up in a week. By this time, the German Federal Network Agency (BNA) may not have time to approve the launch of the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline, which is scheduled to double gas supplies from Russia to Germany through the Baltic Sea. It is already clear that the Green Party, a longtime opponent of Nord Stream 2, has gained political weight and will be able to influence the formation of the new German government, Urs Unkauf, a spokesman for the Federal Association for Economic Development and Foreign Trade of the Federal Republic of Germany, told Izvestia.
The new German government will not be able to prevent the filling of Nord Stream-2, but may begin to revise specific agreements with the Russian Federation on the gas pipeline, Unkauf said.
Late last week, Greens MEP Reinhard Butikofer called for the pipeline to be turned into an investment ruin.
"If the Green party comes to power, there will be difficulties with the supply of natural gas, there will be a revision of some agreements," Unkauf said. within the new green paradigm ".
In his opinion, the new Cabinet will not only toughen the environmental requirements for the operation of the gas pipeline, but will also preserve the sanctions, "since the backbone of the coalition will be formed by the same parties that have been in power in recent years" - the CDU, CSU, FDP plus the Greens. "In recent years, they have supported the course of limiting and reducing cooperation with Russia," Unkauf recalled.
