Politico: How the US is Going to Delay the Construction of Nord Stream 2
OREANDA-NEWS. The US State Department intends to add four more vessels participating in the construction of Nord Stream 2 to the sanctions list. The newspaper Politico writes about this, citing sources.
Washington believes that such a move will help slow down the implementation of the project, although it is already more than 90 percent complete. Opponents of Nord Stream 2 are also hoping that the German Green Party, which opposes the construction of the pipeline, will win seats in parliamentary elections scheduled for September. The initiative on restrictive measures against four courts will be included in the State Department's report to the US Congress and will be presented today.
At the same time, media sources confirmed the information of the Axios portal that the administration of the American leader does not plan to impose sanctions against the operator of the Nord Stream 2 AG gas pipeline and its head Matthias Warnig. This move is likely to be criticized by lawmakers demanding the introduction of tough restrictions on the companies involved in the construction of Nord Stream 2.
According to the project operator Nord Stream 2 AG, a subsidiary of Gazprom, as of March 31, Nord Stream 2 was 95% built. As Mathias Kruse, General Consul of Germany in Yekaterinburg, noted earlier, now only 80 kilometers of the total length of the gas pipeline along two lines remain unfinished.
