OREANDA-NEWS. Gazprom is putting pressure on Germany and the European Commission (EC) to launch the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline. This was announced on the air of the Polish radio by the Polish government's plenipotentiary for strategic energy infrastructure Piotr Naimsky.
“The Russians have limited gas supplies to recipients in Western Europe. They have limited the implementation of long-term contracts to a minimum level and do not send gas, which is necessary for consumers in Europe, in excess of the minimum contractual supply, which provoked an extreme, sharp rise in prices for this raw material, ”he said.
Naimsky noted that these restrictions are allegedly a "form of pressure" on the FRG and the EC. Thus, the Russian side is seeking consent to launch Nord Stream 2.
The cost of gas futures in Europe on the eve first exceeded $ 1.9 thousand per 1,000 cubic meters. m. for the first time since October 6, and then broke a historical record, having risen above $ 2000. Subsequently, the price rose to $ 2300. However, on December 22, the price of gas futures on the exchange fell to $ 1,885.2 - 10.5% lower than Tuesday's estimated price of $ 2106.2.
Anna Bodrova, a senior analyst at the Alpari information and analytical center, told Izvestia that gas for Europe should be priced 10-15% below today's levels at auctions. She predicted a "systematic decline in prices" for the energy carrier "not earlier than the end of February - beginning of March", when the demand for fuel will begin to decline due to warming.
