Oil Price Fell by 2 % after Reports of Trump’s Infection with COVID-19
OREANDA-NEWS. On October 2, world oil prices decreased by 2 % amid a statement by US President Donald Trump about his positive coronavirus test.
As of 5:46 UTC, the price of December futures for Brent crude oil fell by 2 %, to 39.9 US dollars per barrel. The cost of November futures on WTI oil dropped by 2.1 %, to 37.59 dollars per barrel.
According to Reuters news agency, in the first 40 minutes after the appearance of the message, the futures quotes on the NASDAQ index fell by more than 2 %, to 11.3 thousand points, the futures on the S&P 500 index lost 1.8 %, dropping to 3.3 thousand points.
In the foreign exchange market, the US dollar also began to lose ground, although not so significantly. The DXY (dollar against the top six currencies) decreased by 0.16 %. The decline against the euro was 0.3 %, so the European currency rate rose to 1.173 dollars.
