OREANDA-NEWS. The Chernomorneftegaz company estimated Russia's natural gas production in Crimea since its reunification with Russia at 10.4 billion cubic meters. This was announced on Wednesday by the CEO of the company Svetlana Nezhnova.
“Over the years, from 2014 to 2019, the Russian Federation has extracted 10.4 billion cubic meters from deposits that belong to Ukraine”, its news agency quoted as saying. According to Nezhnova, gas production in the Crimea decreased from 2 billion cubic meters in 2014 to about 1.5 billion cubic meters, including due to international sanctions.
In September 2017, Naftogaz filed a lawsuit against the Russian Federation at the International Tribunal, demanding compensation for losses in connection with the loss of assets in the Crimea. The list of valued property includes production assets of the Chernomorneftegaz subsidiary, gas in an underground storage facility on the peninsula, as well as assets of other Naftogaz subsidiaries. As part of the process, Russia filed a counterclaim challenging the claims of the Ukrainian side. In February 2020, Naftogaz announced that the specified amount of the claim with interest was about $ 8 billion.
After the coup in Ukraine in February 2014, the Crimean and Sevastopol authorities held a referendum on reunification with Russia. More than 80% of eligible voters took part in it; 96.7% and 95.6% respectively voted for reunification with Russia.
