OREANDA-NEWS  Moldovagaz cannot pay the $700 million demanded by Gazprom. This was stated by the President of Moldova Maya Sandu, her words are quoted by RIA Novosti.

According to the head of state, the debt audit was conducted by reputable international companies, so Moldovagaz can pay only part of the required amount — $ 9 million.

Gazprom has extended gas supplies to Moldova on condition of repayment of the country's historical debt. However, Maya Sandu said that Moscow should not insist on the return of funds for "fuel consumed during a difficult economic period". According to her, debts have been accumulating since 1994, so the republic will not pay without an international audit, which was agreed only in 2022.
