OREANDA-NEWS About a third (30 percent) of the oil produced in Russia comes from hard-to-recover reserves. Igor Shpurov, head of the State Commission on Mineral Reserves (GKZ), spoke about the difficulties of extracting this type of raw material. His words are quoted by Interfax.
He noted that currently about 70 percent of technologically recoverable hydrocarbon reserves are profitable. More active technology adoption would allow to increase this share. "If we had created such technologies that allow us to extract at least a third of them, then we would have received an additional 18.4 billion tons of oil in the balance sheet," Shpurov said.
Among the technologies for the research of hard-to-recover oil reserves, he attributed mobile field development installations equipped with a special instrument base that allows you to make discrete measurements. In addition, it is necessary to create technological landfills, concluded Shpurov.
Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said that by the end of 2023, oil and gas condensate production in Russia fell within one percent of the level of 2022 and amounted to approximately 530 million tons. He linked such dynamics with the country's obligations under the OPEC+ deal.
