OREANDA-NEWS. Suspending the certification of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline is hypocrisy, given the increase in oil supplies to the United States from Russia. This was stated to RBC by the head of the German Bundestag committee on climate and energy, Klaus Ernst.
“I consider the government's position on gas pipeline certification to be hypocrisy, because the United States has recently increased oil imports from Russia. I have not heard that they are somehow limited, ”he summed up.
According to Ernst, the decision to suspend the certification of Nord Stream 2 does not mean that it is final. This indicates the suspension of certification, without which the project cannot be launched.
He added that the government's decision to suspend the project became problematic, as such a measure would affect the entire European region. In turn, the launch of the gas pipeline, on the contrary, would have a positive impact on at least ten European countries.
The politician recalled that even during the Cold War, Russia and Germany managed to maintain a partnership in the energy sector. If the German government questions the partnership between the two countries, it will be a big step backwards.
On February 22, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz instructed the country's Ministry of Economy to stop the process of certification of the Russian Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline.
Later that day, Rolf Mützenich, head of the Social Democratic Party of Germany faction in the Bundestag, said that if sanctions were imposed on Russia, the entire world economy and the international system would be affected in the long term.
