OREANDA-NEWS The German Ministry of Finance plans to nationalize the Nord Stream 2 section passing through Germany. Spiegel writes about this, citing sources.
It is specified that the German authorities are studying plans to connect the German segment of the gas pipeline to a floating LNG terminal.
“The federal government is looking into whether the part of the pipeline system that is on German soil should be expropriated and cut off from the rest of the pipeline. Pipelines leading from land to sea could then be connected to a mobile LNG terminal,” the paper said.
It is clarified that Nord Stream 2 is already connected to the gas distribution network. Gas through it can be exported directly to the south of Germany. Experts express concern that pipe separation could pose a risk to the environment.
Earlier, German Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection Robert Habeck said that gas consumption should be reduced in all areas where possible, as the country is in a gas crisis.
“We are in a gas crisis. Gas consumption should be reduced wherever possible. Otherwise, it will be difficult,” said Habek.
Earlier, the head of Germany's Federal Network Agency, Klaus Müller, said that the country would be able to survive without Russian gas for 2.5 months of an average winter if gas storage facilities were 100% full.
