Germany Called the Imposition of Sanctions Against Nord Stream 2 Suicide

OREANDA-NEWS. German political scientist Alexander Rahr said that the imposition of sanctions by Germany and other EU countries against Nord Stream 2 is suicide, reports the Ekonomika Segodnya publication.
According to him, now in Europe no one is discussing how to return the dialogue with Russia - in addition, Russia's position on Donbas issues is being swept aside.
“The point is, first of all, to punish Russia and show that it has no right to speak against the West in such a way. Nobody considers the consequences. The fact that Russia can impose counter-sanctions is out of the question,” Rahr said.
He said that the hysteria due to Russia's recognition of the independence of the DPR and LPR will disappear in a few days, and European politicians will return to understanding the need for dialogue with Russia. However, sanctions, according to Rahr, will still be introduced, despite the fact that sanctions can harm the European Union.
“I don’t think that Russia will be disconnected from SWIFT. There will be sanctions concerning some products that will not be supplied to Russia. But the Russian Federation will respond with its own sanctions, ”Rar explained.
In the conditions of the energy crisis, the shortage of gas will "cool" the hysteria of European politicians, Rahr believes.
Earlier, a member of the Bundestag Committee on International Policy, Steffen Cotre, said that the German government was looking for an excuse to stop Nord Stream 2.
