Germany Assessed the Deal Between Berlin and Washington on "Nord Stream - 2"
OREANDA-NEWS. The authorities of the Land of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern are glad that the Nord Stream 2, agreed within the framework of the legal process, can now finally be completed, they welcome the agreement between Germany and the United States on the project, the regional Ministry of Energy told RIA Novosti.
"The government of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is very pleased that this construction project, approved through the legal process, can now finally be completed. Therefore, we very much welcome this agreement," the department said in response to a question from RIA Novosti.
"The pipeline consists of two lines. The first line of cables has already been completed, the second - only a small part remains (to complete) there. However, extensive work and tests still need to be carried out before commissioning," the ministry added, pointing out that the speed of completion of this work "The Nord Stream 2 operator can better estimate in terms of time than the land (Mecklenburg-Vorpommern), which does not build the pipeline."
Earlier, Germany and the United States published a joint statement, which refers to measures to support Ukraine, European energy security and common goals for climate protection. It formulates a number of conditions for the operation of Nord Stream 2. In particular, the United States and Germany stated that in the interests of Ukraine and Europe to continue the transit of Russian gas through Ukraine after 2024, Berlin undertakes to use all available means of influence so that the agreement between the Russian Federation and Ukraine on gas transit is prolonged.
Vladislav Belov, head of the Center for German Studies at the Institute of Europe of the Russian Academy of Sciences, told RIA Novosti that the agreement between the United States and Germany on the Nord Stream 2 pipeline demonstrates the compromise of German Chancellor Angela Merkel, but for Russia after the deal, all the risks associated with the implementation of the project remain.
