Georgia has dramatically increased purchases of oil and gas from Russia

OREANDA-NEWS Georgia last year increased gas purchases from Russia to record levels since 2009, and oil to the highest since 2017, RIA Novosti found out after studying the data of the Georgian statistical service.
Purchases of Russian natural gas for the whole of 2024 amounted to 180.9 million dollars, an increase of 38 percent compared to 2023. At the same time, this indicator has become the highest since 2009 (earlier data are not provided).
Tbilisi purchased the most natural gas from Moscow through the pipeline — for $ 145.7 million in 2024, and in December it was imported for $ 37.2 million. The total volume of purchases of this fuel from abroad in December amounted to 40.7 million dollars, which is 2.2 times more than a month earlier and 1.8 times more than a year ago.
In addition, Georgia increased its imports of Russian oil over the past year by almost two—thirds, to $5.8 million, the highest since 2017. In December, this type of fuel was purchased there for three million dollars, which is 2.6 times more than the November results. Data for the last month of 2023 is not provided.
At the same time, in 2024, Georgia reduced imports of petroleum products from Russia by six percent, to $519.5 million. At the same time, purchases totaled $47.7 million in December, an increase of 1.4 times since November and 1.2 times since December 2023.
Among other types of mineral fuels in 2024, Georgia was in demand: coke and semi—coke from coal were purchased for 42.1 million dollars, coal — for 12.4 million, as well as petroleum coke and bitumen and other residues from oil refining - 11.6 million.
